Five ways to create the time + space to self-reflect

Self-reflection is not always easy. And, as I have been growing within my temple love practice; I have been realizing that I must dedicate the time and space to dive deeper within myself to obtain what I was searching for.

Here are some ways that to build and develop this environment.

1. ACKNOWLEDGED HOW MUCH TIME AND SPACE YOU HAVE TO REFLECT.

When I was a little girl, my father used to take me to AA meetings. Some are like 'woah; this went left." But, those meetings really stuck with me. Forever in my head will be embedded; "the first step to recovery is admitting you have a problem."

So before evening creating the space and time to reflect; I had a self-realization that I was lacking such. At this moment of enlightenment; I was working seven days ; 60 plus hours a week. When I came home, it was straight to bed to wake up to a day full of work, posting and getting myself together to show up for others. I thought I had plenty of time in my mind, but I didn't have the space to sit, rest and and truly reflect upon myself.

I acknowledged that this was an issue and began to then develop a plan to create what I wished to see in my reflection time.

2. DRAW OR WRITE WHAT YOUR REFLECTION SPACE LOOKS LIKE

For everyone this looks so different, but when developing this vision think of your place and situation of joy.

For myself, I envisioned and spoke a place of silence. My joy was inside. The air was still. I had a comfy space to sit, a journal to write in and a cup of warm tea to remind me to sip slow as I digested every part of my being.

3. CREATE THE SPACE AHEAD OF TIME

Now that you have your vision of what this reflection space looks like. Take the time to prepare yourself for a great future session of self-reflection.

Some may need a month, week or night to prep their space. Some may want a comfy spot to sit; others may need their candles of choice. And, you may just need to find the space away from others whom could intrude upon this moment for yourself.

Whatever you need, take all the time to set it up to match your desires.

4.BOOK YOURSELF!

Whether its 15 minutes, one hour, a couple days, months or a year. Set the time aside for yourself . You're the therapist and patient in a space of self-reflection. Your time is valuable and should be respected.

If you don't show up for your appointment; be kind but hold yourself accountable when measuring your growth.

5.COME WITH NOTES

When I am walking into my self-reflection session I come prepared with notes to open myself up. Some prompts to do so are:

-mind dump of thoughts: taking one minute to clear the mind by writing everything down which comes to mind

-have thought provoking questions prepared

ex: "What does my higher self look like? I am her now?"

-read your past journal entries: highlight moments you are proud of in one color and in another mark those which you wish to grow from to develop a growth plan.

ENJOY!
